Listen to Your Heart

Being courageous is not that easy or is it?
I asked my class "...but what if you just don't feel like doing it."
This little boy said "Your mind tells you no but your heart tells you yes. Listen to your heart." :)) He is 6 years old.

Loving

"I like being loving because I have love in my heart" said a little 7 year old girl.

There is so much love in our hearts. How often do we ignore it or refuse to use it because we rather be sore or angry or even resigned to imagining that anyone else has this love.
This 7 year old loves because she wants to. She knows that even if she gives it away there will always be more. How wise.

Thought and Compassion

There is so much thought and compassion to this project. It nourishes the spirit in all of us and gives us hope in knowing the "little minds" of our children are being exposed to practices which lead to great wisdom. By incorporating these "red cards" into all our schools, we can help children more easily recognize their potential, take steps to create balance in their lives, and at the same time, cultivate self-worth and self-awareness. Infinite love and gratitude to Lucia and her colleagues for this brilliant work.

Outside of the Classroom

I like to have parent conferences at the beginning of the year with all of my parents. During one conference, the mother of a girl I have in my class commented on how she appreciates that I am teaching character traits, such as kindness and attentiveness, etc. She said that her daughter comes home and tells her about being kind to students in the class, etc. I explained that this was a school-wide activity and she commended us for taking the time to teach this at school. Even though she teaches these qualities at home, she likes that it is reinforced at school. So...our efforts at school are being noticed at home. Even though I have taught students in the past to be kind and to be attentive, I think giving the students the actual "words" has helped them to understand it better and to use what we teach outside of our classrooms. Thank you Ingrid for sharing this program with us!
