Outside of the Classroom

I like to have parent conferences at the beginning of the year with all of my parents. During one conference, the mother of a girl I have in my class commented on how she appreciates that I am teaching character traits, such as kindness and attentiveness, etc. She said that her daughter comes home and tells her about being kind to students in the class, etc. I explained that this was a school-wide activity and she commended us for taking the time to teach this at school. Even though she teaches these qualities at home, she likes that it is reinforced at school. So...our efforts at school are being noticed at home. Even though I have taught students in the past to be kind and to be attentive, I think giving the students the actual "words" has helped them to understand it better and to use what we teach outside of our classrooms. Thank you Ingrid for sharing this program with us!
